FRENCH WHITEWORK QUILT
A beautiful quilt or piqué (the French word for quilt) that can be used in any number of different ways. The French put a quilt of this size on top of the bed to create a layered look. They might also use it on top of a table as a decoration. Or, folded and placed over the back of a sofa.
I would date this quilt or piqué as circa 1860-70. The top of the quilt is constructed from a fine cotton. The back has a cotton edge and the center of the back is a fine homespun linen. The back carries the hand embroidered initials in red, "A.C." in two places.
Size: 62" x 52"
Condition: Quilt is in excellent condition. It is free from rips, tears, repairs, stains. There are 6 balls missing from the ball fringe tape decoration. These could be recreated using some fine cotton yarn or you could remove the fringe tape from the quilt.. I washed this quilt so it is clean and ready to use.
If you have always wanted a French quilt to add to your collection, this one is just lovely and very versatile. $1195.00
