A LOVELY, SWEET SCHOENHUT CHARACTER GIRL

I love this doll.  She has such a serene, sweet face. And for me, she has just the right amount of facial distress.  I prefer Schoenhuts that have NOT been restored or "touched up" and have some minor paint loss......we know they were loved!   This child has brown intaglio eyes and full lips and a lovely, soft expression.  A beautiful full, original wig in brown mohair crowns her head.  Her body is in excellent condition, both visually and mechanically.  Measuring 19" tall, she is a rather large example.  Her dress is an appropriately styled remake.

14th Blue Book price for this child is between $1800 and $1300.  My price of $895. is very reasonable.

A fine  example of a Schoenhut character girl for your collection.

RARE AMERICAN BESTER DOLL

This is the first of these I have handled in my 25 years in the antique doll business.  Perhaps I had one before, but didn't realize what it was and assumed it was a German composition doll.  This one comes with the end box label so we know who she is.  The Bester Doll Company was located in Bloomfield and Newark, New Jersey from 1918-1921. The factory came into existence because the World War interrupted importation of dolls from Germany.  She is modeled after ball-jointed German dolls from this period.

Condition is outstanding.  She is in unplayedwith condition.  Her wig is full and still in it's original styling. The finish on her composition face is in mint condition, just as it came from the factory. The cords coming out of her mouth were put there by the factory to hold the eyes in position during shipping.  Her eyelashes are intact.  Her chemise is her original,  factory chemise.  Stringing is original and loose.

She is an unusual, all original, unplayedwith doll in mint condition. She is the best example of her type and would be a great addition to an important collection or museum.

RARE LITTLE ORPHAN ANNIE
Have you ever seen one of these?  I haven't, not in my 25 years in the business.  She is in outstanding condition. (There is a pinpoint size nose rub that you can see in the photo.) Across her back is the marking "Famous Artists Synd."  I would date her circa 1930's.  Her body is straw stuffed muslin, her shoulderhead and arms are composition.  Her clothes seem original.  The only item I am unsure about are the socks.  They may be replacements. Her height is 15".
A great addition to a collection of comic characters or rare composition dolls.
