MINIATURE FRENCH HATBOX FOR A FASHION DOLL 1860-80
This hatbox is an exact miniature of the hatboxes French woman used to store their hats from 1860-80. It is made of wood and lined with green paper, just like the full size boxes for ladies. The top is decorated with a black coated fabric (worn). A leather strap was used to securely close the boxes.

These boxes were manufactured as an accessory for fashion dolls of the period. See Maree Tarnowska's book "Fashion Dolls" p.95 to view these miniature boxes in a room setting with fashion dolls.

In generally excellent condition, there is one leather strap missing (a good shoemaker could replace it). There is also a piece of wood missing from the cover (see photo)..

A rare fashion doll accessory to add to your collection. Great to use to display your favorite French fashion hat.
